First page scanned

Got the first page in. No digital ink yet. I'll get to that later.
Check it out!

The start of something great

I just finish two pages of chapter one.
I will be scanning them in tonight and posting them soon after.
I will then begin practicing digital inking and such.

New materials

I bought some paper and a binder for the rough drafts of the manga.
I decided to go with graph filler paper and a 1/2" binder. This way I can still draw on the go and easily take out sheets to scan them in.

I'm still trying to tweak the intro of the main character a bit. It still doesn't feel right.

More Content

Wrote a bit more of chapter 1. I'm trying to judge a good length for chapters. For now I'm thinking 20-30 pages per chapter, and about 10 chapter per full book.

Playing with two titles. I'm going to chew on them for a few days and see which one I like more before I settle on one.

I should be able to get drawing the actual chapter this weekend at the soonest, and I hope to put up the first few pages in 1-2 weeks.

I'm aiming to have the first chapter done by the end of October to debut at Shadocon.

New Direction

With the advice of a friend, I have decided to start publishing my manga online as a webcomic. It will be posting one page at a time.
I hope to be creating a website made special for it soon.

New title

I won't be using Geomancer as my title for the manga.
In all seriousness, it does not even fit the idea anymore.
I will give much thought to a new title.

Experiment

Fooled around with some negative space ideas.

I almost erased through the paper.
This will be very useful for the GGX manga.

New Content

I posted some roughs of the characters from Geomancer on my deviantart. LINK

I also wrote out the intro and the beginning of chapter one. Progress is slow, but It's going somewhere.

I also made some other drawings. I will upload them later.
Two of the pics are the same. One is in pencil while the other is marker. Which looks better?

Side project

Just created my devientart account and uploaded my first piece of artwork there.

The scan quality is awful, but it is all I have to work with at the moment. The character is Djinn, the villain of an upcoming promotional manga for the GGX show. This show was performed by friends of mine during Metrocon '10. They wanted more hype, and it fell to me and two other mutual friends to create a manga for this incredible show.
I will post updates of this progress as well.

milestone 1

I have reworked most of the story. The old story was weak and fragile.

I have stripped away useless characters and meaningless scenes.

I have reconstructed the main character and the supporting cast.

I have completely remade the costumes and other clothing, as well as names and locations.

The antagonist's origins have been redesigned, and the lore behind everything has been changed as well.

One of the few things I have not changed is the title:

Geomancer

Start

So here is my road so far:
I've been an artist for most of my life. I started off with stick figures like everyone else. I drew A LOT.

I started drawing anime style cartoons about 7th or 8th grade, but I got mad at myself for limiting my skill. I only practiced realistic rendering for years, until I was able to draw people well. After that I didn't draw manga until I was approached by a friend with an epic story to tell.

He had this idea for a manga during Christmas break back in college. I loved it. We began working on it immediately. Three years later, we were almost done with the first book. For reasons I still don't know, he suddenly stopped talking to me. The story that was his idea was forsaken.

I still have the drawings and rough drafts of the manga. Since then I have drawn many short works for my own amusement.

A few weeks ago I decided to finish my friend's story. He has since completely abandoned it, and I would hate for such a great idea to go to waste.

This blog will gauge my progress and keep me accountable.
